The Hope-Jones organ, Worcester Cathedral

In 1894, organ builder Robert Hope-Jones was retained to rebuild two damaged water-powered organs as a single instrument. Hope-Jones had hoped to blow his organ with electricity but instead used a gas engine and rotary blower with the necessary engine house built on the outside of the south wall of the quire, near the St John Chapel. This organ continued in use for some 25 years until rebuilt by Harrison and Harrison in 1925. Sir George Gilbert Scott designed the beautiful casing you see here.
