Coundon and Leeholme War Memorial

Coundon and Leeholme, War Memorial. A new soldier was carved from a piece of Teesdale limestone to replace the original soldier that was taken down in the 1960's due to its poor and unsafe condition. The surrounding grounds were cleared and replanted in 2007 and a new pathway laid. A small group of local volunteers from Coundon and Leeholme and the surrounding villages, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Derek Brownbridge formed the Save our Soldier Committee (SOS) a few years earlier, with the aim of restoring the soldier for the War Memorial which was completed in 2007
