Dinton in Wiltshire

Hyde's House situated on the National Trust owned, Dinton Park Estate. The Hyde family moved to Dinton from Cheshire; and it was here that Edward Hyde was born in 1609 (being Christened in the Church, next door). After studying at Oxford he became a successful lawyer, entered politics and rose to be Lord Chancellor under Charles II. His daughter Anne married the future James II and was mother to Queen Anne and Queen Mary. Raised to the peerage, he took the title Clarendon after the Royal Palace near Salisbury.
