Limpley Stoke, Wiltshire

The Kennet and Avon Canal was completed in stages between 1790 and 1810. Like all the inland waterways of that time, it sourced water from rivers and followed the most navigable route through the countryside. In many cases the early railways also followed the same routes. Limpley Stoke is on the main line to Bath and Bristol which runs alongside the canal for much of its length
