Wallsworth Hall

Built in 1740 by local business man, landowner and Magistrate Samuel Hayward as a wedding present for his new wife. After many different owners and then standing empty for a number of yearsthe H all was bought by Gloucester City Corporation during the second World War who used it as a residential nursery to care for infants whose mothers were working as part of the war effort. It was also used a centre for training nursery nurses until 1953. The house was sold again to a private buyer and most of the time was empty, it was also used as a furniture store for a local auction house and part of the time as maisonettes. In 1987 the 'Nature in Art Trust' bought the Hall. It took over 12 months to restore the building and retain it's original features without disturbing one of the countries largest bat roosts in the roof.
