Cubit's Finger

This is the Church of St. Barnabas at Ranmore Common high up in the Surrey Hills overlooking Dorking. The church was built in 1859 in a gothic style and was built as the estate church for the Denbies Estate ( this is now one of Englands foremost vineyards ). The Estate was owned by the Cubitt family employing 150 odd people . The novelist George Meredith nicknamed the spire which can be seen for miles around as " Cubitt's Finger". I visited this church to photograph it on a Sunday and was unable to view inside as it was locked.

Great shot Vince, very interesting info, but locked on a Sunday, that's a bit odd.
