Dominion.

Opposite Canada Dock in Bankhall stands a now derelict pub called the Dominion, once the haunt of Dockers and seamen. On the roof stands this figure looking out over the docks and Mersey. I always thought the figure depicted a sailor but the zoom lens shows him to be probably a woodcutter. I thought I'd better take the picture (22nd March 2009) whilst he still remains as the poor chap's future must be in serious doubt. POE regular Ruth (see her comment) is put in mind of Paul Bunyan the mythical lumberjack, who needed three storks to deliver him as a baby! Given that the Dominion faces the Liverpool Docks, famous for it's Trans-Atlantic trade links it could well be him. If so "he's a lumberjack and he's okay". Thank you Ruth.

A very cool shot, Rod, and thanks for the history. I don't know if you've ever heard of Paul Bunyan, but that's what immediately sprang to mind when I saw this.
