Rolls Royce Merlin engine

The Rolls Royce Merlin engine which powered what is possibly one of the most iconic of British designs......The SPITFIRE.....it was up and running and what a fantastic sound. Seen at East Park in Hull where there was 'Veterans Weeknd' which celebrated and remembered the veterans of the wars, along with various other rural, cultural and historic events

Oh Magig, I bet the sound was magic. Did you know back in the mid 70's a chap called John Dodds from Epsom had a customised Rolls Royce with a Merlin 27 litre to make it go and it was street legal. I saw it run at Santa Pod once , an experience- I remember he got wheel spin when he changed into 2nd gear AT 90 mph!!! He went on to build a 2nd merlin powered Roller, this time an estate version! As you would imagine Rolls Royce were not at all happy with a motor or two like this rumbling around Surrey with a Rolls Royce grill and motif.
