On the 7th April 1926, Violet Gibson, whose grave can be found in Kingsthorpe cemetery, Northampton, emerged from a large public gathering and shot the Italian Fascist leader three times with a pistol hitting him twice in the nose. The infamous dictator survived the assassination attempt. Violet Gibson went on to spend much of her remaining years in Northampton mental asylum, now a private hospital known as St. Andrews.
