St Michael's Church

The small church, built in 1140, has some fascinating stained glass windows and is host to services and weddings to this day. It is not owned by the Pennington family but is still in active use as the spiritual home of the Parish of Muncaster. Having been extensively repaired and renovated around the turn of the Millennium through a generous grant from English Heritage and the valiant fund-raising efforts of the local community, the church is a grade 1 listed building dating back possibly to the 12th century. It is certain people have been worshipping God here for at least 1,000 years as shown by the "Viking" cross still in the Churchyard and it is believed that this is a pagan site pre-dating the Christian era and therefore that people have worshipped here for millennia.
