The Ancient Mariner

Watchet harbour became the inspiration for the epic poem The Ancient Mariner by the romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In 1797 he walked over the Quantock Hills from his home in Nether Stowey, along with his friends William and Dorothy Wordsworth and came upon Watchet. It has been said that looking down at the town from St Decuman's Church gave him the inspiration for his poem.

Brixham is situated in South Devon`s beautiful Tor Bay on the English Riviera ... this is one of the many views along the harbour.

Carrick Roads.

This shot was taken from the top of Trelissick Park looking down Carrick Roads towards Falmouth and out into open water. Carrick Roads is a natural harbour ( in fact the third largest in the world ). The entrance to Carrick Roads was defended by a castle on each side at the entrance built by Henry the Eighth, they are Pendennis castle on the Falmouth side and St.Mawes Castle on the Roseland side. I estimate the shot from Trelissick to the boats is about five miles and I took the shot hand held.

We were heading along the coast road to St Ives when we called in to Portreath, where the waves were crashing in on a stormy morning.Not sure what this little beacon is at the end of the harbour, but it was getting a pounding. Port Logan, Dumfries & Galloway

Port Logan is a small coastal village in the Rhins of Galloway, Wigtownshire. The village was created by the Laird of Logan in 1818, also building the quay and bell tower from a design by Thomas Telford. Nearby are the Logan Fish Pond and Logan Botanic Garden. The village was used as the setting for the popular BBC series 'Two Thousand Acres of Sky'

Dover - town and major ferry port . Its strategic position has been evident throughout its history: archaeological finds have revealed that the area has always been a focus for peoples entering and leaving Britain. The name of the town derives from the name of the river that flows through it, the River Dour. The higher land on either side of the valley – the Western Heights and the eastern high point on which Dover Castle stands – has been adapted to perform the function of protection against invaders.

Solva, Pembrokeshire

Solva is a coastal village situated on the northern side of St.Bride's Bay in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Lower Solva consists of a long street ending in a small but picturesque harbour. The rocks at the harbour entrance made it one of the most sheltered anchorages between Fishguard and Milford Haven. Even back in medieval times Solva was the main trading centre of St.Bride's Bay, but is now largely used for recreational boating.

The harbour is sheltered by the grade II listed east and west piers each with a lighthouse and beacon with fixed lights. The west lighthouse, of 1835, is the taller at 84 feet (25.5 m) and the east lighthouse, built in 1855, is 54 feet (16.5 m) high. On the west pier extension is a foghorn that sounds a blast every 30 seconds during fog

Exmouth's colourful Marina is very busy at times. There is a regular Stewart Line cruiser that take trippers up and down the River Exe and also along the Jurassic Coast to see the red rocks as you go sailing by.
