A picture of York

The Black Swan, Peasholme Green, York, dating from the 16th century, thought to be the oldest inn in York. In the early 1500s and before it was the home of the Bowes family, who were prominent citizens of York. Sir Martin Bowes, born in this house, became the Lord Mayor of London in 1545. The Black Swan was also connected with the family of General Wolfe (of Quebec fame). It was the home of his mother.
