Waverley Abbey House, Surrey

Near the ruins of Waverley Abbey on the River Wey is the private residence of Waverley Abbey House built in 1723. At one time Sir Walter Scott used to visit here. It was also formerly owned by the brother-in-law of Florence Nightingale. In 1723 the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Aislabie, used materials from the old abbey to build a country house designed by architect, Colen Cambell on the Palladium style.
