A picture of Branston

The War Memorial at Branston, Lincolnshire details the name of 30 men who perished in the Great War & 5 who suffered a similar fate in WWII (although records elsewhere show numbers to be 37 & 7) . Interestingly the memorial also gives dates for those fell in the Great War and thanks for those who returned. The memorial wordings is as follows : TO THE PRAISE AND HONOUR OF GOD AND IN GLORIOUS REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF BRANSTON WHO FIGHTING FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE WAR FOR THE WORLD'S FREEDOM PASSED TO THE LIFE BEYOND. 1914 - 1919 THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE. THIS CROSS OF PEACE IS SET UP BY THE PEOPLE OF BRANSTON IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF THOSE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR AND IN DEVOUT THANKFULNESS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE LIVES OF THE 130 MEN WHO WERE SPARED TO COME BACK. LEST WE FORGET. PEACE. 1914-1919
