Memorial to Henry I in the Forbury Gardens, Reading

The cross in the foreground is a memorial to Henry I, King of England, who was buried before the High Altar of Reading Abbey on Jan. 4, 1136. His tomb in the Abbey was destroyed at the dissolution. As the founder of Reading Abbey, King Henry intended that the abbey would be his memorial, but sadly all that remains is ruins.
