Bentley Continental GT Driving by the Old Brooklands Banking
I thought it very fortunate that a Bentley sports car should be driving by as I was photographing the very spot on the Brooklands motor racing circuit where their histories were so intertwined. This was the first purpose built motor racing track in the world, which opened in 1907. Bentley Motors began producing cars in 1919 and spent much time developing and racing them here. There are a number of famous paintings and photos, mostly of Sir Tim Birkin, pounding round this bend in the famous Supercharged (Blower) Bentley, with one or more wheels off the ground, on his way to the track record of approx 134 mph.
