Spring arrives in Wharfedale. This picture was taken last Tuesday at Bolton Abbey. We had taken a quiet path on the right hand bank of the Wharfe having noticed long lines of organised walkers heading towards our intended direction across the footbridge. This quieter path led down to Bolton Bridge and the Devonshire Arms. This scene opened up just a few hundred yards off the main path.

The pretty church dates from 1866 is in the small village of Combrook. It was built by the Dowager Lady Margaret Willoughby & lies in the parish of Compton Verny. March 2014

A delightful timber framed manor house dating from the late 14th century, surrounded by a moat & entered by a charming gatehouse. Owned now by the NT there a miles of walks through park & woodland & is a fabulous place to visit.

The only road through the village is a quiet narrow lane. Half a mile further on around the bend, the Wessex Ridgeway crosses the lane on it's way to the Cerne Valley. The Wessex Ridgeway is a long-distance bridleway, which takes a diagonal route from the top of Dorset down to Lyme Regis on the coast.

This picture was taken just yesterday and shows the Daffodil Bank at Parcavall Hall, Appletreewick. This is a gem of a garden tucked away among the narrow lanes of Wharfedale. The manor house here is currently owned by the Diocese of Bradford and is used as a retreat. The garden is registered to the Royal Horticultural Society.

Spring is finally arriving at Stourhead. The Stour Valley Way, passes along the west side of Stourhead Lake and follows the River Stour through Stourton and on to the village of Gasper.

Bluebell Woods, Capernwray, Lancs

This woodland is part of Old Hall Caravan Park, Capernwray. During late May to June large areas of the woods are carpeted in bluebells. A view across the Stour Valley from the bridleway which connects both the North Dorset Trailway and the Jubilee Trail out of Stourpaine. The old Somerset and Dorset railway line can be seen on the raised banking, crossing the centre of the picture. Norton Wood on top of the hill opposite, is a deciduous section of Blandford Forest.

Set in the heart of this delightful thatched village, it dates from the 14th C with the tower rebuilt in the 18th. Lord North who was the Prime Minister of England at the time of the American Independance, is buried here.

Rockbourne is a village of thatch, brick and timber houses, next to a stream now known as Sweatfords Water. It is situated in Hampshire three and a half miles north of Fordingbridge.

A grade 1 Elizabethan house built around 1550 by the Dryden family now owned by the NT. John Dryden inherited an L shaped farmhouse & gradually extended it over the years to how it looks now.The house was close to collapse until the trust took it over in 1981.I took this in April 2014
