Exeter's old shops

The Lakeland store in Exeter was originally built as a home for a wealthy merchant around 1650 and is listed in many history books as 'The House of Ross'. Sometimes used as a dwelling house for judges and mayors, most of its life it has been a shop. On the frontage and you will see coats of arms of the many Guilds that the store once supplied goods to. The wonderful façade covers the full height of the original five storey building.
