East Lyn River in Lynmouth

In 1952 due to heavy rainstorms high up in Exmoor, a huge deluge of water cascaded down both the East and West Lyn rivers and merged to virtually destroy old Lynmouth. Several lives were lost and the town had to be rebuilt and the river realigned with retaining walls. A visit to the local flood museum is well worth a visit.
