Arrochar, Scotland

Arrochar is a village located near the head of Loch Long, on the Cowal peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scottish Highlands. The village is within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. A torpedo testing station at Arrochar on Loch Long, was opened in April 1912, to test torpedoes manufactured at the Admiralty torpedo factory in Greenock. The loch provided a quiet stretch of water along which unarmed torpedoes could be fired, observed and then recovered. The range closed in late 1986.
