Portpatrick is on the extreme south-westerly tip of the Scottish mainland. The focal point of the village, which was founded on fishing, is the harbour. Portpatrick was once an important ferry port for passengers and freight between Ireland and Scotland and was once known as the Gretna Green for Ireland.
