About Loudoun Castle Park

The ruins of Loudoun Castle have their origins deeply rooted in the 12th and 13th-centuries. Later, in the 15th-century the early buildings were incorporated into a fortified castle which became the ancestral home of the Campbell family and it is this hauntingly beautiful ruin which forms the centrepiece for one of Scotland's major theme parks.

The grounds surrounding the castle are now the home of an exciting theme park offering a diverse range of attractions for all ages. It has a Big Top with a daily program of entertainment featuring acrobats and jugglers, birds of prey, a rare breeds farm, and dare-devil Rollercoaster rides as well as traditional Jammy Dodgems and many other rides.

Visitors to the park have the bonus of enjoying themselves amidst an historic landscape that in the 18th-century became fashionable as "The Windsor of Scotland". Just a short walk away is Loudoun Kirk, the burial place of the Campbell's of Loudoun. Most of the Campbell family are buried here including the tragic Lady Flora Hastings who was defamed by Queen Victoria and who died aged 33 in Buckingham Palace in 1839. There are many stories of ghostly sightings at the castle, particularly of a Lady clad in Grey and of a Benedictine Monk and a Phantom Piper. Today, the soft footfall of the ghosts is replaced by the pleasant sound of folk experiencing a great day out!
