Loch Cuithir
Where diatomite - known locally as Cailc (Scottish Gaelic for chalk) - was extracted from the lochbed from 1899 and finally finished in 1960 and dried on wire nets. It was then transported to the sea by railway. The 2ft gauge line was built to transport stone from the quarry to a loading quay and kiln at Invertote Bay.
