Old Wye Bridge, Chepstow

The first records of a river bridge at Chepstow date around 1288. This cast iron bridge was designed by John Rastrick and opened in 1816. Next to Chepstow Castle, it links Monmouthshire in Wales with Gloucestershire in England over the Wye, a river with one of the highest tidal ranges in the world at this point (13.4m or 44ft). The bridge was awarded a Grade I conservation listing in 1975. Decorative ironwork on the bridge marks the boundary point between the two counties of Gloucester and Monmouth.
