"Thanks for expanding on my caption which I'd put for brevity about this road which I'd mentioned for people doing family history, coming across the former names and might wonder where they went to? You'll also find amongst my Newbury photos, a few other lost pubs notably at St Johns, Newtown Rd and along West Mills." - Paul Hilton(24th January 2013)

"Nice photo, just a few corrections to the history. The name "High street" was in use before 1922, certainly in use in 1901 and before as it appears on census, and other, records. The name was not officially adopted until the 19020's when all (most) the roads were officially named by the council. The building that is noted as "the crown" was the Crown from around 1900 to the 1950's, but the ORIGINAL pub called the Crown was at the other end of the High Street, number 36. It is this ORIGNAL pub that led to the road also being known as Crown Street. The original pub dates back to the 1700s or before and was closed around 1880. The road has also had many other names including West Street." - Nick Young(24th January 2013)
