Gateway to Cattersty Sands - Skinningrove Cattersty Sands is a long sand and shingle beach near the village of Skinningrove, north Yorkshire. The beach is intersected by a rocky pier which dates back to the areas mining days. This area of Yorkshire has a long history of iron-ore mining. The old jetty was built in 1886, for loading steamboats which transported the ore to Middlesbrough. The village houses the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum. Cattersty Sands is a good destination for those seeking a bit of tranquillity and the 109-mile long Cleveland Way walking route passes adjacent to the beach.
