St Nicholas Church, Whitehaven, Cumbria

The church was burnt down leaving just the Tower and a few ruins and was left standing years until recently laid out into gardens for which it has won several awards.

Named after Sir John Lowther who founded the town in 1690 and who laid out the plans for the town which was in fact the first planned town in England after the middle ages.
