Dryad's Saddle The picture shows a fungus named 'Dryad's Saddle' which was on the trunk of a Sycamore tree in the 'Foxcover Woods' at Herrington Country Park. Grassed Amphetheatre The Amphitheatre is a very simple construction with classical greek principals and fits in with Penshaw Monument which can be seen in the background. Site Lines Sitelines (stone circle). On the central hill of the park is a stone circle with seven steel sighting boxes strung between the stones, one for each line of sight. The site lines are NEWBOTTLE CHURCH, WEST RAINTON CHURCH, DURHAM CATHEDRAL, GREAT LUMLEY CHURCH, PENSHAW MONUMENT, HASTINGS HILL, JOHNS ROCK. John's Rock Johns Rock was named after John Leathley, General Foreman of Crouch mining, who during the development of the park brought the 40 tonne rock from the bottom of the void, 70 metres below ground onto the top of the adjacent hill, with one of the heavy plant used to landscape the park.
