The Gatehouse, Llansteffan Castle

The original Gatehouse of the late 12th Century Castle. To the right is Jasper Tudor's much smaller late 15th Century entrance (created when the gatehouse was converted to residential use and reflecting the reduced threat of the Castle being involved in conflict)

The gatehouse, Llansteffan Castle

The late 15th century alterations blocking the original entrance are clearly visible. No longer was it felt necessary to have Portcullises rising into living accommodation and murder holes within the hall. In its early days the Castle had been taken and retaken three times and defences of that type were necessary.

Late 20th Century Madonna and Child, Llansteffan Church

A departure from the traditional viewing in a contemporary light, as did the ecclesiatics of mediaeval times who moulded images that were contemporary to their time.
