Colaton Raleigh Church The parish church of St John the Baptist was certainly in existence before 1226. It was substantially rebuilt in 1875 retaining some features of the 13th century interior and the 15th century tower. Workmen restoring the bells in the church tower a few years ago, objected to a hive of bees in the belfry, and proposed to remove them. Colaton Raleigh cottages The main road through Colaton Raleigh stops at the junction of the railway line that used to go via east Budleigh and Budleigh Salterton to Exmouth. There is a link road opposite the church leading to Dotton but this shot is looking back up the main road with the church behind us. Colaton Raleigh view The road to Colaton Raleigh is not really a dead end. To the initiated there is a legal highway that turns right by the church, through a ford and up a hill then alongside a field. It isn't metalled but is still a highway (green lane). Trail riders in Devon know it well and here we see an old Tiger Cub enjoying a seldom seen view over Peak Hill.
