Whitby Endeavour

A replica of the ship Captain James Cook used to sail to Australia and New Zealand can be found in Whitby as a tourist attraction. The full-scale copy of Endeavour was towed 40 miles by sea from Middlesbrough. It is a floating museum that arrived in 2018 to mark the 250th anniversary of Cook's first expedition to the Pacific. Yorkshire-born Cook began his maritime career in Whitby.

River Esk at Whitby

Sailing on the River Esk and floating out to sea at Whitby. River Esk is 28 mies long and the only Yorkshire river that flows directly to the sea without joining another river. Other rivers flow to the North Sea via the River Tees or the Humber Estuary.
