Boat on River Dee, Kirckudbright There is no doubt that Kirkcudbright has for centuries been held in high esteem as a safe and useful harbour. Even Philip, King of Spain planned that the Armada would land a vast invasion force at Kirkcudbright. But nowadays, since the river is tidal, the access to the harbour tends to silt up and needs dredging to get sufficient shipping. Wellspring seems to be calmly resting here.
