Stan Laurel statue

Stan lived during his youth in nearby Princes Street and attended the King James I Grammar School. His father, a theatre manager, eventually moved to North Shields and Stan made his first stage appearance at the age of 16.

Stan Laurel statue

This ststue of Stan Laurel (born Stanley Arthur Jefferson in 1890) is due to be unveiled on the corner where his fathers theatre once stood, The 'film reels' at hs feet are inscribed with the names of some of the films he made with Oliver Norvelle Hardy, as Laurel & Hardy.
