Gladiator
A replica of a 17th century Borghese Gladiator statue has been placed on a plinth at one of Yorkshire's most famous abbeys, Whitby Abbey. English Heritage has overseen the £80,000 project to re-cast the gladiator sculpture which historians believe once stood in front of the spectacular Banqueting House – now the abbey's visitor centre – built by a powerful Whitby landowner, Sir Hugh Cholmley II, in the 17th century.
