The River Leven, Backbarrow Cumbria

A picture of The River Leven taken from the river bank of the small village of Backbarrow near Ulverston close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere. A very powerful river which in the eighteen hundreds powered many industries including Corn mills, Bobbin mills, Iron works, a Gunpowder mill, Woollen mill and numerous other smaller businesses. The building in the picture is now The Whitewater Hotel and Spa having once been a large mill.

The River Leven Backbarrow, Cumbria

A picture of the river Leven taken from The Whitewater Hotel Backbarrow near Ulverston, Cumbria. This area was very industrial in the eighteen hundreds this included The Dolly Blue factory which people of a certain age may remember as the little blue bag which was added to a white wash to make the washing appear whiter.
