Welford, Berkshire Welford Park house is a private residence. On the site was formerly a monastery until 1536 at the Dissolution by King Henry VIII. The current house was built in 1652 with various alterations being made over the centuries. The present family's ancestors came from County Cork, Ireland when many generations ago, King George II gave them land in return for the family's military services, their then residence being Dunboy Castle. A church has been here since Norman times and would have been part of the monastery there. Welford, Berkshire The former right of way and station platforms at Welford Park of the Lambourn Valley Railway that ran from Newbury to Lambourn from 1898 to 1973. Welford Park station closed to passenger traffic in Jan. 1960, and was unusual having both up and downline platforms.
