The Main Gate at Tarrant Rushton is thankfully still there. Just in front is this beautiful memorial commemorating the men and women who served there during and after the war. The stone plinth is made from the runway itself.

This is a 12th century Norman building - mainly of flint. On on side of the wall are the deeply ingrained marks of leper's hands clawing to see through the window at the service inside

This tree in the grounds of St Mary's Church is called the 'Crowborough Yew' and estimated to be 4,000 years old. In 2000 a sapling was planted, taken from the ancient tree

The airfield at Tarrant Rushton, Dorset

This was once a WW2 airfield, famous for the launch of DDay with the taking of Pegasus Bridge, and later the Berlin Airlift. After the war it was used by Flight Refuelling Ltd. for Air Tanker conversions. Operational until 1982 then demolished, leaving two hangars and the perimeter track, now farmland - plus a haven for wildlife, walkers and cyclists.
