The Seed, a huge granite sculpture at Eden

The Seed is the centrepiece of the new building known as the Core, where all the non-living exhibitions are now housed. The Seed is carved from Cornish granite and weighs 70 tonnes. It has Fibonacci spirals carved onto its surface, which mirror patterns found in nature such as on a sunflower.

This is a fairly horrific sculpture, part of a group representing the Rites of Dionysus and interplanted with grape vines in the Mediterranean biome at Eden.

The new sugar lorry in Eden's tropical biome

This lorry has a serious purpose. On the back of it are emergency crates containing everything a family needs to provide emergency shelter and provisions after disaster strikes.

Robin in the mediterranean biome at Eden

Eden now has a colony of robins living inside the biomes and their song seems exceptionally loud as they are indoors. Some people thought that the birds must be tropical species. They clearly have no fear of people either. This one was sitting only a few feet away.

WEEE Man at the Eden Project

WEEE man is made entirely of Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment. New EU rules mean that retailers now have to help their customers dispose of redundant equipment. Eden came up with a more artistic, if rather skeletal, solution.

Eden in the rain

The new building in the foreground, called the Core, and the biomes beyond, get a good soaking. The water is all saved and used for things like flushing toilets.
