Mother and baby
It's hard not to be moved by the bond between the mother and baby here and yet the pups are left to fend for themselves almost immediately after the mothers have fed them for the last time at about three weeks old. The females mate again straight away and leave the pups to make their way from the beach to the sea alone and to find their first solid food. - Marilyn Harris (photographer)
