Plague Stone, Semley, Wiltshire At the side of the road in the woods just along from the Church is an original plague sink. Villagers would put bread and other scraps of food into the sink for victims of the great plague. The “unfortunates” would take the food and place a coin that had been dipped in vinegar into the sink as payment. The villagers would only collect the coins after it had rained and washed away any contamination. The stone is dated 1665. St. Leonard's Church in Semley, Wiltshire Semley is an unspoiled sprawling parish with a common, dominated by St. Leonard’s Church on the green. The present church was rebuilt in the Victorian era in Gothic style, and has a beautiful circular baptismal font from the original Norman church.
