Fareham Creek and Moorings Fareham is a market town in the south east of Hampshire, England between the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth and roughly in the centre of the South Hampshire conurbation. It gives its name to the borough comprising the town and the surrounding area. Fareham traditionally relied on its clay soil for industry producing bricks, tiles and chimney pots. This past is commemorated through place names such as Kiln Road. The most famous example of a building constructed of "Fareham red bricks" is probably the Royal Albert Hall, London. Lower Quay, Fareham At the time of the Domesday Survey the hundred of Fareham consisted of Fareham only and it had probably been included in the grant of the latter to the see of Winchester about the ninth century. In 1284 the King, probably as the result of a suit of which however no record can be found, gave up to John bishop of Winchester and his successors, all his right in the hundred of Fareham. It gives its name to the borough comprising the town and the surrounding area. To the south of the town lies Gosport itself a separate borough, to the east Portchester to the north the M27 motorway and Wickham, part of the City of Winchester. Westwards lie Titchfield, Catisfield, Locks Heath, Warsash and Whiteley which is also shared with the City of Winchester. Fareham traditionally relied on its clay soil for industry producing bricks, tiles and chimney pots. This past is commemorated through place names such as Kiln Road. Fareham and Crofton Cricket It must be getting close to summer. For those unfamiliar with the game you have 2 sides; a team that's in and a team that's out.. Two men in the team that's in, go out and when one of the men who's in, is out; the next man goes in until he's out! When they are all out; the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in, goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in; the men who are out are trying to get him out and when he is out, he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in, are out! When both sides have been in and all the men have been out and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game. That's the wonderful game of cricket This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 7D |

Titchfield Abbey Titchfield Abbey is a medieval abbey and later country house, located in the village of Titchfield near Fareham in Hampshire, England. The abbey was founded in 1222 for Premonstratensian canons, an austere order of priests. The abbey was a minor house of its order, and became neither wealthy nor influential during its three centuries of monastic life; the inhabitants were devoted to scholarship, as shown by their very impressive library. Titchfield was closed in 1537 by Henry VIII of England during the Dissolution of the Monasteries and the building was converted into a mansion by Thomas Wriothesley, a powerful courtier. Later in the sixteenth century the abbey was home to Henry Wriothesley, who was a patron of William Shakespeare. In 1781 the abbey was abandoned and partially demolished to create a romantic ruin. The remains were purchased by the government in the early twentieth century and are now a Scheduled Ancient Monument under the care of English Heritage.
