Fountains Abbey, Ripon, North Yorkshire Fountains Abbey is a ruined Cistercian abbey near Ripon in North Yorkshire. It was founded in 1132 and continued till 1539 when it fell victim to Henry V111's Dissolution of the Monasteries. The property is now owned by the National Trust. The photograph shows one of the abbey's outbuildings, a guest house, lit by autumn light. The guest house is situated by the banks of the River Skell which winds its way by the ruins.
