Anne's Pasties. If you happen to be in Lizard and feeling peckish then a good port of call would be "Anne's Pasties". In a residential street in Lizard and only standing out from the neighbours by the St. Piran's Flag and bright yellow paint ,Anne's Pasties can be found at the end of the drive in a converted and extended garage. Do not be put off, these pasties are sold in a number of outlets around Cornwall on a regular basis this is a proper business and there is even a pasty by post service. And oh yes , they do pass the test and are a PROPER JOB !! This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Panasonic Model: DMC-TZ25 |
The thrift and the rocks While I was at the Lizard Point I saw a member of the Chough watch ( braving the very brisk and cold wind). There are groups of choughs living on the Lizard and they are observed for their own protection. The chough is a bird somewhat like a rook but with a red bill and legs and a very distinctive cry. The Chough is special to Cornwall and forms part of the Cornish coat of arms ( sits on top of the shield of bezants with a fisherman and a tin miner on each side ). Unfortunately the chough was lost from Cornwall for many years( perhaps because of changes of land usage and management ) but just over ten years ago a couple of birds re-established on the Lizard and now quite a few groups are now established.I have heard recently though that one of the original pair has been killed - but it is thought by one of the new younger birds of the group. The old Life Boat Station and The Serpentine This shot shows another view of the Lifeboat station and also some of the rock of the area. The Lizard is mostly serpentine, a rock prized for it's colours and veining that is often carved and polished into jewelry and ornaments. The old Life Boat Station A general shot out to sea at this most Southerly Point on the British Mainland showing the old lifeboat station. I remember seeing this as a location in a Wycliffe episode. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
High and dry and to see the sea A well used telescope and a lesser used boat make for a scene in this most wonderful setting. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
Lizard Headland Flora This struck me when I saw this, apart from a patch a thrift the mass of plant life on this cliff is sedum. On the cornish walls behind the path at the top these too are covered in the succulent plant form This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
