I'm Shy

I'm Shy

One last pic from our visit to the Riveride Animal Centre found by the banks of the River Wandle as it flows through the centre of Beddington Park. The centre opened it's doors on September 6th for an open day and it was very well attended. There were a couple of runs for foxes and they had a number of fox cubs in both and the cubs are close to being old enough to be released back to the wild very soon. While most of the foxes were up and about taking in what was going on and a few ( as seen in a previous shot here on POE ) were completely chilled out and taking a doze, this character did not seem to be keen on the "people" nosing through the wire mesh into his territory. He just seemed to sit and keep a watchful eye on all us lot and stayed behind a barrel in a corner all the time with just his head showing. I have vignetted the corners just to tone down the harshness of the breeze block walls behind this chap.

Riverside Resident

Riverside Resident

Here at The Riverside Animal Centre this tawny owl is in fact a long term resident having been here for 16/17 years and correct me if I am wrong but I think his name is " Merlin ". Alongside the River Wandle as it flows through Beddington Park the Centre had an open day today and one could see many animals and birds being cared for before release into the wild or characters like Merlin who are residents. Another resident of many years was very conspicuous by his absence and that was the albino squirrel - every return to his corner was greeted by an empty looking pen, there were many hiding places all looking squirrel cosy so it was a lazy day hiding from all the peering faces for him. (wise squirrel ).

Hello- I'm a Bit Prickly, But Cute With It !

Hello- I'm a Bit Prickly, But Cute With It !

A young hedgehog finds caring hands to help with getting better before going back into the big wide world outside. All sorts of creatures are cared for here at the Riverside Animal Centre in Beddington Park and all being well they can go back to the wild. The centre had an open day today and the caring work done there was plain to see.

It's Busy Being a Fox

It's Busy Being a Fox

Taken at Riverside Animal Centre that is found in the middle of Beddington Park on the open day today. Most of the normal wildlife from our countryside that finds itself in difficulties is cared for here as well as rescue and re-homing of the likes of cats and dogs can be found here. Once well enough the wild animals will be re-introduced to the countryside.

Carp Attack

Carp Attack

Seen at a garden centre in Wallington at it's aquatic section there is a large pond with carp and they do seem to enjoy eyeballing the customers. Mind you it might have something to do with a family feeding them. All the same , it was a sight watching them coming out of the water and reaching as far as they could to get at some food stuck on the banking.
