The Tower in the Clouds

A quick shot through the coffee shop window at Epsom hospital at what I guess is the chimney of the incinerator. Seeing the odd cloud formation ( I bet one of you will identify the type of cloud) and the tall chimney just called for a quick shot even if through glass.Had camera in the bag with us but was a bit wary of taking much else other than this shot for obvious reasons, besides most of the time I was on visiting duties anyway.

Great Pond and a Heron on the Edge

A further view of the Great Pond on Epsom Common, the water had a red/brown tinge to it's colour and I think it may be as a result of the torrential rain that was here a day or two previous to the shot being taken. There is a heron on the far shore stalking it's prey ( not the white dot but the grey one between the white dot and the tree rowing in the water.

The Dragonfly

The Great Pond on Epsom Common has a very rare insect indeed- a giant wooden dragonfly ! I saw this last year but this time managed to get a shot from a different angle this time. I think it has weathered a bit from last time and wonder how long it will last.

The Vine

The Great Pond on Epsom Common is designated a wildlife reserve so no fishing and a fence prevents people getting too close to endanger the habitat. The fence however had something growing along the wire but sorry to say I do not know what. Anyone able to identify?

The Stew Pond- Epsom Common

This is The Stew Pond and is a smaller pond on Epsom Common. Unlike The Great Pond , fishing is allowed as can be seen. While I was there a couple of lads had caught a fish and I overheard it was around 10-12 pounds but do not ask me what it was as I am no way a fisherman.

The Great Pond - Epsom Common

This is the Great Pond on Epsom Common and is one of the Stew ponds here. It was created by the monks of the Abbey of Chertsey as a fish pond back in Medieval times- however fishing is not allowed at present.

Bullrush Bay

This edge of the Great Pond has a mass of bullrushes along the water's edge, I have not ever seen so many all in one area before.

Boggy down by the water's edge

The Great Pond of Epsom Common does not seem to have a well defined edge but a rather boggy borderline. To the right are a number of bullrushes, in fact more than I have ever seen in one place.

Well, what is it?

Seen on the edge of The Great Pond this can be found 'hovering '. It has about a four feet wingspan to give an idea of scale.
