It was a later example of this type of timber framed building in the 17th century. Next is numbers 14 and 15 here form a particularly attractive pair and are original to Spon Street. They would have been amongst the prime buildings in the street and has been magnificently restored twice recently - 1977 and 1985. In the 19th century it was the Recruiting Sergeant Pub. Spon Street, The Old Windmill This 16th century pub was one of the few buildings to survive the Blitz in central Coventry. Mentioned in Hewitt 1756, it was said to have been erected around the trunk of a tree and is one of the oldest taverns in Coventry. The uneven exterior walls are wattle and daub and until recent years little was done to change its character. During the 1980s there was some modernisation and the central paved courtyard was roofed over and a wall removed.
