The Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great St Bartholomew the Great is one of London's oldest churches. It was founded in 1123 in the Smithfield area as an Augustinian Priory and has been in continuous use as a place of worship since at least 1143. It survived the Great Fire of 1666, the bombs dropped in Zeppelin raids in WWI and during the Blitz in WWII. The church was used in filmings including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, The End of the Affair, Amazing Grace, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and The Other Boleyn Girl. It has also appeared in a number of television programmes including Madame Bovary, The Real Sherlock Holmes, Spooks, and The League of Gentlemen Christmas Special. King's Cross Western Concourse The western departures concourse of London King's Cross railway station, which opened on the 19th March 2012. Designed by John McAslan. The roof is the longest single-span station structure in Europe. The semi-circular building has a radius of 54 metres and over 2000 triangular roof panels, half of which are glass. King's Cross is the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line, one of the UK's major railway backbones. Some of its most important long-distance destinations are Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh. It also hosts outer-suburban services to Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire as well as a regional service to Peterborough, Cambridge and Kings Lynn. Marble Arch The Marble Arch is a white Carrara marble monument that now stands on a large traffic island at the junction of Oxford Street, Park Lane and Edgware Road, almost directly opposite Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park. The arch was designed in 1825 by John Nash as ceremonial entrance to the courtyard of the new Buckingham Palace. Until 1851 it stood in front of Buckingham Palace. Historically, only members of the royal family and the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, have been allowed to pass through the arch in ceremonial procession. Apsley House 'No. 1 London', the home of the 1st Duke of Wellington at Hyde Park Corner, was built 1771-88 by Robert Adam for Baron Apsley. The Marquess of Wellesley bought it in 1805 and sold to his younger brother, the Duke, in 1817. Today it houses the Wellington Museum.
