About Broughton

Noted for Broughton Castle, the country mansion home of Lord and Lady Saye and Sele. The castle has been the family home for over 600 years. The house dating back to 1300 was enlarged in the 16th-century. The gatehouse entrance dates from early 15th-century. The parapet walk around the estate gives fine views over extensive parkland. This stunning, moated mansion was used as a location for part of the film Shakespeare in Love. Nearby, 14th-century church has tomb and effigy of Sir John de Broughton, builder of the original manor house.
