About Tarporley

Attractive large village which developed as a coaching stop on the main London to Liverpool road during the 17th and 18th-centuries. Today, its handsome coaching inns still warmly welcome visitors but it is the modern motor car parked near the door rather than the atmospheric coach of yester-year.

In the village you can see a rich mixture of delightful properties, these include a Manor House and small Hall built by the Done family in the 16th-century, the lovely church dedicated to St.Helen, and the Swan Hotel from 1769. There are leisure facilities and a wide range of excellent shops, catering for all tastes these include fashion, antiques, art, gift and the usual food shops. Within the area there are opportunities for golf and riding.

This is an active village which hosts many events. The annual carnival is held in July, it is a lively, well attended affair which is fun for all the family.

The Cheshire Plains are noted for their spectacular beauty. Tarporley is in the midst of many lovely places, in the surrounding countryside you can find Oulton Park motor racing circuit, ancient castles, boating on near-by canals, Beeston Market, and the beautiful Delamere Forest which has connections with Tarporley. It was the Done family, once the Kings Master Foresters of Delamere who built Tarporley Manor House and the small church hall, known as The Done Room.

From the village there is a magnificent view of the romantic ruins of 13th-century Beeston Castle, which crowns the summit of the lovely Peckforton Hills. Dense woodland drapes one side of the hill, whilst craggy rocks are the defining feature of other parts of the hills.

Tarporley, has a long tradition of welcoming visitors, it therefore makes an ideal location for a pleasant weekend or as a base from which to explore this part of Cheshire.
