Prussia Cove was the most noted smuggling cove between Penzance and Porthleven, Cornwall and named after the notorious eighteenth century smuggler John Carter, who called himself 'the King of Prussia'. Prussia cove is not a single cove, but comprises of Piskie's Cove, Bessy's Cove, and King's Cove.
Outstandingly beautiful with a history steeped in the days of shipwreck, pillage and smuggling. Prussia Cove can only be reached on foot or from the sea. A few cottages dot the cliffs above the cove where once John Carter, notorious smuggler, known as 'the King of Prussia' because of his likeness to Frederick the Great, and who owned and used the inn, also called 'The King of Prussia' as a cover for his daring smuggling activities. It was from Carter's nickname that the cove is said to have got its name.
A place of great beauty, the spectacular sea views make it well worth the half mile walk from the nearest car park. Ancient, almost lop-sided thatched fishing huts are still used to facilitate small fishing boats.
For a magical, traditional Cornish atmosphere of sheer enchantment, romantic Prussia Cove is hard to beat.
